Yep. You guessed it. My Year in Review post!

Tis the season, so… I’ll break it down into various categories to make it easier. Also, I’m not going to look to the upcoming year here. That will be for tomorrow. 🙂

Work…
* Teaching has continued to be an interesting adventure. The new evaluation system is a struggle to come to grips with, and it seems like there is more and more paperwork and less and less time to actually teach – though of course all the same level of learning is expected. I struggle with whether or not to continue with it – I know deep down I’m making a difference for the kids, but I don’t know how much longer I can deal with the stress of it.
* Disney Store has continued to provide me with a bit of magic and some fun stress relief. I know I can’t make it my whole career, but, well, but…

Church…
* This summer I joined a fantastic new church – the United Methodist Church of the Village. I’ve made some great new friends, and I really feel at home there. It’s a fantastic group of people who accept each other just as we are and work for justice and equality for all. It seems contradictory to feel at home and challenged at the same time, but it’s how I feel every time I’m there – from amazing Bible Study classes to Sunday worship, it’s my new family of choice, and I love them!

Personal…
* Not much to report here. I think I’m making a nice little group of friends in Front Runners, but there can always be some confusion there. I’ve connected more with some friends online through various groups and things, and that’s been good. But there’s definitely room for improvement in this aspect for sure.

Family…
* Had a fantastic summer vacation to Key West and aboard the Disney Dream this summer, then an amazing Christmas celebration here in NYC. I have a fantastic biological family, and I love them! 🙂
* On a sad note, my beloved bird Benny crashed into a wall this summer and never recovered. I still miss his squawking – even as annoying as it could be.
* On a happy note, on September 20, I adopted a beautiful tuxedo cat from the ASPCA who I named MoFarah (Mo for short). He is mischievous, but he is a little love bug, and I’m so happy we found each other!!

Running…
* It’s been a bit of an up and down year running-wise. I set new PRs at the 5K, 10M, Half Marathon, and Marathon levels. Walt Disney World Marathon was hot, but a great time. Where else can you ride a roller coaster in the middle of a marathon? I ran the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run with Rick and Becca and had a great time! I randomly signed up for the More/Fitness Women’s Half, which is run in Central Park, and I ran next to Deena Kastor for all of about 5 yards before she blazed past me AND I managed a new PR. The Country Music Half in Nashville was my first race in the rain – from sprinkles to steady to pouring – and while I finished, it was NOT a fun experience. Brooklyn Half was not rainy, but was a struggle to get to the finish line (Chief Osceola, I’m sorry I ever cursed your name at Disney…Ocean Parkway is ten times worse!!!). I was back and forth with Hartford – Half, then Full, then back down to the Half. It was much hillier than I’d anticipated and so my clock time was slower than I’d have liked, but I can honestly say I had the time of my life running it. I never once wished I was anywhere else than on that course. And the year was downhill after that. I struggled through the Dash to the Finish 5K and really let my training slide after that. I know I will be paying for it at Disney in just over a week, but I own it.

So there you have it in a nutshell. My 2013.

Bring on the new!
